HIStory3: Make Our Days Count Ep. 7 Bridge Scene

Ok folks. I’m going to talk about this moment BECAUSE it’s so important to me and I just had to.

So we all know by now that Zhi Gang had been somewhat traumatized by past-failed relationships and he has been chased away from home (not seeing his parents anymore) since they found out he’s dating his college senior (gay). This declaration from the previous episode (Ep. 6) worried Bo Xiang since Zhi Gang is going to be spending New Year alone. And Zhi Gang told him he’s fine because he will be celebrating with his friends.

AND THEN CAME THIS EPISODE. After the New Year’s party with his friends (including Zhi Gu my baby), Zhi Gang was alone, again. And he wistfully wishes his parents (I think he’s dad specifically) a happy new year while walking alone. This man has persevered until now and I dare say he’s genuinely happy in his relationship, but at the same time, having not seen his family for so long is taking a toll on him.

Sun Bo Xiang then finds him and hugs him tightly. And I had to pause while watching that for the first time, because Zhi Gang is probably feeling so alone and cold, and despite that he still asked Bo Xiang if his parents won’t be mad at him for leaving. Like???? BE MORE SELFISH DAMMIT!!! So then Bo Xiang tells him that it’s okay because it’s past midnight already and “I just want to see you”. Zhi Gang is probably feeling the same way because he dropped it at that and just held Bo Xiang’s hand while smiling at him.

Bo Xiang then asked if he knows his New Year’s wish, and Zhi Gang asked what is it (little did he know that the next words will change his world). Bo Xiang then said…

“I want to take you home. He let you leave home. I will let you go home. Go back to your own home. I want to let your parents accept you and believe in our love.”

And as he’s saying those words, Zhi Gang’s face just started to crumple and he is tearing up. And before he can actually process that, Bo Xian JUST HAD TO GET DOWN ON ONE KNEE while declaring, “…I want to be your last lover.” And without really waiting for an answer, because he must have known he is overwhelming his poor Zhi Gang-ge, he puts the ring on his finger and declares, “…You belong to me.”

Zhi Gang just looked at him with a tearful smile because OH MY GOD THIS IDIOT JUST PROPOSED TO ME. And I think this is that moment that he actually realized that he loves this man. Wholeheartedly love him. Whatever he experienced before with past-lovers is now a blur and they all build up to this moment. Here stands in front of him is a true-becoming man, young and optimistic and wholly accepted Zhi Gang’s complicated past with a big heart. He loves him and he saved him.

He can’t really convey all that in words so he just hugs him tightly and Bo Xiang happily accepted it, probably knowing what Zhi Gang wants to say with this hug. They then looked at each other with pure beaming love and kissed on that bridge. Zhi Gang finally tells Bo Xiang he loves him and Bo Xiang just happily replied that he loves him more, like he already knew it long before the actual words were said.

This scene is so beautiful and melancholic. I’m such a supporter of wholesome relationships just like this one. Where the two individuals acknowledge that it’s not just the two of them in this world but family matters all the same. One cannot be truly happy if there’s a part of them that’s missing. Bo Xiang must be feeling grateful that he’s got a complete family because he knows Zhi Gang, the love of his life, is alone and must be wishing for a family just like his.

These two are such a perfect match. Some people are quite disturbed about the age difference but when you meet that one person who completes and inspires you to be better, you just had to let it be. Especially if it’s not harming anyone. Only Bo Xiang can accept Zhi Gang’s past with a caring heart and only Zhi Gang can inspire Bo Xiang to be grateful and think about the future. They complete each other. In every possible way.
